The Emerging Revolution

money

Fitness is big business.

Diet industry alone is worth 70 billion a year:

In his 2006 book, The Next Millionaires, New York Times Best Selling Author, Paul Zane Pilzer discusses the 1.4 trillion that we spend on medical care.

He goes on to talk about the WELLNESS REVOLUTION in which baby boomers and those coming up behind them are spending 300 billion a year on things such as health club memberships, personal trainers (12 billion alone), supplements and vitamins, botox, massages, and more.

The Viagra industry is worth 10 billion dollar a year business!

By the end of the decade, Pilzer predicts that the Wellness revolution will be a 1 TRILLION dollar a year industry.

So what’s that mean to you and me?

It means that the Wellness Revolution is an emerging industry that will continue to thrive and if you enjoy bodybuilding, fitness or figure and want to earn money in the industry then now is the time to start.

It means that there is an incredible amount of oppty out there for experts in the fitness industry – namely bodybuilders, fitness and figure participants.

I’m partial to bodybuilders, fitness and figure competitors because I’m a former competitive bodybuilder.

I feel that no one knows more about getting in shape, understanding nutrition and supplements than we do.

As Marty Gallagher states in his book, “The Purposeful Primitive” “Anyone can slash calories, stop eating and lose bodyweight – the bodybuilding elite (that includes fitness and figure competitors) have developed a consensual system that burns off the body fat without burning off muscle.”

What I see are, in lot of cases, out of shape personal trainers who have never gotten below 10% bodyfat making tons of money in the industry because they understand the business side of it.

“Nowadays fitness “experts” and “industry leaders” enthrall and bedazzle the gullible public with the unquestioned contention that physical progress is all about what lies around the next corner.

The unspoken assumption is that we live in an era of fitness miracles and “the march of progress” trumps into obsoleteness any and all things that came before.

I want to bridge the gap between bodybuilders, fitness and figure enthusiasts/competitors because I feel that although they know how to get into awesome shape with training and diet, they don’t take advantage of the money making oppty’s that are out there for us – particularly with the arrival of the internet and other current technology.

Rise up…

October 31, 2008 · Filed Under Austin Mayor's Fitness Council · Comment

Oct 31, 2008 -  I spent the first part of this morning in downtown Austin, Texas at Paul Carrozza’s RunTex Riverside store filming Paul for our upcoming video for Austin’s Mayors Fitness Council.

Paul and his wife Sheila, founded RunTex in 1988 and have since built their business into the Nation’s largest store devoted exclusively to running. In addition to RunTex, Mr. Carrozza also founded RunTex University and RunTex Events.

RunTex Events produces over 120 events per year and raises over $5 million annually for local charities. He is also co-founder and sponsor of RunTex Marathon Kids Program, which has successfully helped over 100,000 children achieve endurance and learn to enjoy running.

Paul is also serves on The President’s Council On Physical Fitness and Sports along with Hall of Famer, Lynn Swann, Denise Austin and others.

Presidents Council Members Share Fitness Tips

Both President George W. Bush and Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson have a vision of a “HealthierUS,” an America where people are empowered to make healthy choices. In brief, they want each one of us to:

  • Be physically active every day, adults for 30 minutes, children for 60 minutes,
  • Eat a nutritious diet,
  • Get preventive screenings, and
  • Avoid risky behaviors.

Some members of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports wanted to share with you what they do on a regular basis to stay active and keep fit.  Maybe you can adapt a few of their fitness tips to your own lifestyle and make them work for you:

Wake up, work out, eat some Halloween candy tonight!

Sounds pretty good to me!

Have a safe and happy Halloween!

Monica Brant-Peckham & TotalMommyFitness.com

October 18th, 2008 - I spent this morning at Butler Park near the Fountains in downtown Austin, Texas.

Monica Brant and I met up with the Tatum Rebelle and her faithful group of trainee’s.

Tatum’s company is TotalMommyFitness.com

Tatum and Diana put Mo through a fullbody workout (legs, core, chest, back and shoulders)

And Mo had an extra 38lbs strapped on in the form of a 5 yr old blonde haired kiddo named, Francesca!

I filmed the workout for an upcoming episode of FitnessandFigureReality.com and, perhaps some of it can go on our video for the Austin Mayors Fitness Council video that we are working on!

Run To The Gold!

September 17, 2008 · Filed Under Austin Mayor's Fitness Council · Comment

I had the pleasure of meeting University of Texas Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Gail Goestenkors, yesterday.

Jen Ohlson and I interviewed “Coach G” for our upcoming short fitness film.

Our short film is for Austin’s Mayor’s Fitness Council and our project on obesity.

Coach G joined some elite company by virtue of her role “in assisting Team USA’s run to the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.  She is just the 5th coach to lead two different Olympics teams to gold medals and the ninth overall coach to accomplish the feat.”

That’s Coach G and me in her University of Texas office.

How To Make Your Desire Come True

September 12, 2008 · Filed Under Austin Mayor's Fitness Council · Comment
Robert Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez

I had the oppty to film Robert Rodriguez yesterday at 10:30am in his office for our short film on Fitness for the  Austin’s Mayors Fitness Council.

Robert is the award winning film maker for too many films to list here.

In his book, “Rebel Without A Crew”, which I read in one sitting, Robert has a section called “The 10 Minute Film School”.

Being a professional fitness videographer, of course I was interested in that.

Anyway, due to my son’s Birthday, I had to CANCEL THE OPPTY TO MEET AND FILM ROBERT RODRIGUEZ!

What?

But we rescheduled, so it’s fine.

Robert lives here in the Austin, Texas area.

I remember after I read “Rebel Without A Crew” I told my wife that I would meet Robert Rodriguez one day.

Life can be pretty cool, can’t it?

"REbel Without A Crew"

"Rebel Without A Crew"

So, is there someone whom you’d like to meet or something that you’d like to do?

My advice?

Set the intention of meeting that person or doing that “thing”.

Follow your instincts, your passion and let life lead you to that person or that thing.

If you really, really want it to happen then somewhere down the line, you can be sure that the oppty will present itself.

But you have to really, really want it.

Just like in fitness.

You can’t say, I want to get in shape and then not take the steps necessary to fulfill that desire.

“You are what your deep, driving desire is.
As your desire is, so is your will.
As your will is, so is your deed.
As your deed is, so is your destiny.”
Brihadaranyaka Upanishad IV 4.5

Scott, Mo and Brandon

I was over at Gold’s Gym on Bee Cave on Friday filming for the 19th DVD of FitnessandFigureReality.com

Brandon (Mo’s super trainer) and Mo trained Back together for about an hour.

This will be one of the segments in DVD 19 due out this month.

Scott Peckham showed up for his 9 month rotating workout.

He only trains once every 9 months!

Seriously (sort of).

Anyway, I snapped this picture of the three of them after the workout.
